After his impressive debut taking over a cancellation with the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks in 2016, Joseph Bastian was awarded the prestigious Neeme Järvi Prize at the Gstaad Menuhin Festival and Academy in August 2016, having also conducted the Gstaad Festival Orchestra on tour in April 2017.

Recent highlights include debuts with the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken Kaiserslautern, Münchener Kammerorchester and Sinfonieorchester Basel. Highlights for the 2017/18 season include debuts with the Berner Symphonieorchester, Musikkollegium Winterthur, Nürnberger Symphonieorchester, Duisburger Philharmoniker, Bremer Philharmoniker and the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg. 

In 2018 he will return to the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks and Sinfonieorchester Basel and will also make his debut in Japan with the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra. 

As Assistant Conductor he has worked closely with Mariss Jansons, Vladimir Jurowski and Daniel Harding with masterclasses from Bernard Haitink, David Zinman and Jorma Panula. Joseph Bastian has also been the Chief Conductor of the Abaco-Orchestra of the Munich University since 2011.
